BGCP_33: Coll and Robert MacGregor (sons of Rob Roy)
Stuart 6; Drummond 1; Fisher B
Site co-ordinates: 48.70/26.40
This slab is the most southerly of three slabs within the iron railing surrounding the Rob Roy family graves, marked on the railing as: COLL, DIED 1735. ROBERT, DIED 1754. SONS OF ROB ROY.
The slab is 1.72 m long (W–E), and up to 0.56 m wide. It has a slightly angled head (NNW–SSE), with a break at its NW corner, and notch on the S side; it has slightly convex sides, narrowing towards the E. There are parallel hairline cracks along the length of the slab.
It bears the crude image of a claymore, 0.91 m long, carved in raised relief. It has slightly downward sloping quillons with a total width of 0.33 m. The blade is 0.60 m long, and narrows from 0.13 m wide below the handle to a point at the E, the width perhaps indication that it shows a sheathed sword. The handle is in the form of a cross, 0.19 m long and 0.14 m wide. The whole carving has a slightly lopsided appearance, the quillons and cross being lower on the right side.
