BGCP_07: Claymore grave-slab (2)
Site co-ordinates: 43.00/19.00
Photogrammetry here
This slightly irregular grave-slab is 1.37 m long (W–E) and between 0.51 m (W) and 0.41 m (E) wide. Its W end is rounded at SW corner, and more squared at NW. The E end is sharply angled NNW–SSE. A border is visible at the E end; it is squared, unlike the edge of the slab.
Just visible within the border, slightly S of centre, is the faint outline of a sword blade, 90 mm wide with a pointed E end. Its width suggests it is a claymore although it could have a scabbard. Traces of a hilt may be faintly visible further west, but no quillons. Its full visible length is 820 mm. Also within the border at the E end of the slab are two faint parallel lines. This Claymore grave slab does not appear to have been previously recorded. The sword was not observed during cleaning, and was only revealed by the photogrammetry. It is unclear why a slab at this location should be so heavily worn.
